The Park: Hardwicke Fields
Hardwicke Fields was established over twenty years ago
as a fully residential mobile home park for retired and semi-retired
people.The park covers nearly five acres of sloping land with
open views of the surrounding countryside.
All homes have pleasant gardens and there is ample car parking space.
Mains services - electricity, water and telephone connections
- are all underground.The tarmac roads are lit by standard lamps,
and the
footpaths by light bollards. Dogs and cats are allowed at the owner's
discretion.
The Village: Haddenham
Hardwicke fields is five minutes walk from the centre of
the fenland village of Haddenham. The village has a range
of shops including a sub-Post Office, family butcher, greengrocer,
pharmacy, two licenced general stores, a fish-and-chip shop/Chinese
takeaway and two hairdressers. There are two pubs: The three
Kings and Cherry Tree.
There is also a sports & Social Club and an outdoor bowls club.
The thriving Arkenstall village centre houses a library and
provides regular activities for all tastes including carpet
bowls, modern sequence dancing, and various entertainments.
There is an excellent medical centre with three doctors and a nursing
team.
The spiritual life of the village is catered for by Holy Trinity
Church, and the Baptist and Methodist Chapels.
The Area: East Cambridgeshire
The village of Haddenham (population about 3,000) is 12 miles north
of Cambridge and 7 miles south west of the cathedral city of
Ely. The area is rich in history abd archaeology, and is within
easy reach of the East Anglian coast, and many old market towns.
Rail Links: Ely is on the mainline from King's Lynn to London (Kings
Cross), and trains also run to Norwich, Ipswich and Peterborough
(on the East Coast line with fast trains to the North and
Scotland). There is also a cross-country service to Birmingham
and Liverpool.
Roads: The M11 (South to the M25 and London). the A1 (to the North
and Scotland) and A14 (west to the M1 and M6), and east to
Harwich and Felixstowe are all within easy reach.
